On Thursday, October 18, Dallas County High School will be holding its Pink Out Day for Breast Cancer Awareness. This event is very important to the school and the community as one of our own teachers here at DCHS has fought against Breast Cancer and WON! Ms. Kristy Dillard is a Breast Cancer Survivor. Ms. Dillard is an English and Creative Writing teacher and is loved by many of her students. Ms. Dillard is known for her sense of humor and pleasant personality. Many students don’t know that she has battled with Breast cancer. I interviewed Ms. Dillard and asked her some questions about her journey.
How did you feel when you first found out that you had Breast Cancer?
“I felt shocked because no one in my family was ever diagnosed with it and none of my friends or anyone my age had it so it was very shocking to find out I had it.”
How did you stay strong through your fight?
“My friends, family, and GOD. Knowing that people are there for you when you need them most helps out a lot with the stress of something like cancer. The sickness was the worst part but my friends and family were there to help me through it.”
What advice would you give to someone who is going through the battle with Breast Cancer?
“Stay strong, pray, and talk to your friends. Prayer helps with everything. Talk to your doctor about your medicines too they can help find the best medicine suited for you and your situation.
